And so the end has come and it’s bittersweet. Even though I have been watching from the comfort of my front room, and mostly at ridiculous times in the early mornings I have loved every single tired moment of this weekend.
Today kicked off with the 20th Anniversary of The Phantom Menace, and my personal highlight is the standing ovation and chant for Ahmed Best, the man has been through so much at the hands of the negativity within a small but loud part of the fandom and today he was shown just how much he is loved by the vast majority of us. It’s truly heart warming to be able to witness such positivity. Although the Panel started with the original Teaser Trailer for ‘The Phantom Menace. That trailer was the few minutes of footage that ruined ‘The Mark of Zorro’ for me because ALL I could think of was that bloke with the double bladed lightsaber.
Star Wars: Resistance gave us a panel and the fans at the convention got to see the first episode of Season 2, and received a beautiful poster (photo courtesy of Peter J. Viox) as well as getting to see the cast and crew on stage to talk about the series, and the biggest thing we learned (via live stream at least) without a trailer, a clip or anything, is that Season 2 will follow directly on from Season 1, meaning that it will continue to run concurrently with ‘The Force Awakens’ and ‘The Last Jedi’
The Closing Ceremony gave us a nice recap of the weekends events, the highlight of which was when Anthony Carboni and Andi Gutierrez received Honorary Memberships to the 501st Legion, the video recap was lovely and somewhat emotional and the next Star Wars Celebration was announced, Star Wars Celebration: Anaheim, which is quite disappointing seeing as this will be the third Celebration in a row in America. Can’t they give the rest of the world some love? But my lovely wife heard the news, we had a quick conversation and let’s just say I have my fingers crossed.
And now, it’s time for us to return to our normal lives for another year. Whilst I have only covered some of the panels I will attempt to cover those I have missed in the near future.
And finally, before I go and actually rest for the first time all weekend I would like to thank everyone who came along on this ride with me, listening to the podcasts and reading these posts, it makes all this lack of sleep worth it.
