Star Wars Celebration – Friday, the Underwhelming Publishing Panel

One of my favourite panels at the recent Celebration’s has been the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel, where, in years gone by we have been given announcements for the upcoming novels for the rest of the year and this has usually included the upcoming tie-in books to the new films.

This year however didn’t bring us any new book news, instead we got more information on the already announced books.

Whilst I enjoy getting new info on upcoming titles to whet my appetite, I am more excited for ‘Thrawn: Treason’ knowing some of the info we got from Timothy Zahn (a Chiss battleship!!!) and that The Cardinal will feature in ‘Black Spire’ from Delilah S. Dawson and Claudia Grey has mentioned her interest in writing a novel (or two) set during the Old Republic Era, which given her track record would be amazing.

But where were the announcements for the content that will form the ‘Journey to the Rise of Skywalker’ series? At Celebration 2016 we learned of all the ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ tie-in material, including ‘Catalyst’ from James Luceno and it was announced that Alexander Freed would be penning the novelisation. In 2017 we found out about the ‘Phasma’ novel and others in the ‘Journey to the Last Jedi’ run.

It’s been said that they don’t want to announce these books because they may contain too many spoilers for the film at this early stage of promotion but surely they could give us something? Anything really?

But like I said, we do have a lot to look forward to, in a matter of days we will be able to buy ‘Master and Apprentice’ by Claudia Grey and we have so many more books coming out in the next few months I’m sure we’ll have enough to get us through until October.
